About Us
History
The ranch is located on fourth generation land outside of Pampa in the Texas Panhandle in the northern most part of the state. While we have only been in the registered Angus business since 2001, I have been involved with our commercial herd since 1984, and Glennette is a third generation cattle rancher. We have continued to use the “Flying Bell”, the brand of her grandmother Bell to honor that heritage.
Why Angus?
We made the move to registered Angus for many reasons, among the most important is the American Angus Association itself. Few industries can boast a leader the likes of AAA. The marketing, the continued education of the ranchers and public alike, the database with extensive pedigree and trait history, the support of the junior breeders. . . . Another reason we chose the Angus breed was the flexibility of the breed and because of the strength of the database, each breeder can select the traits to be enhanced or reduced with each mating.
Our Herd & Breeding
In 2001 we sold our commercial herd and purchased 39 registered females from Gardiner, Lust and Dodd. We continued the 100% AI breeding program to only proven sires. To take advantage of all the tools available to us we added embryo transfer to our program with the purchase of half interest in our first donor in 2002 from Gardiner Angus. Currently we have over 200 registered females, 50+ commercial recipients and utilize co-op herds for additional embryos. At this time over 60% of all calves produced at Goode Angus are the results of embryo transfer.
Sales
We market a few females through the Texas Angus Association consignment sales each year. They have been well received and that encouraged us to expand our herd. The year 2007 marked our first production sale when we were able to offer a strong selection of females while retaining a great foundation for our future. This is the annual PDF Sale-“Prime by Design Females”, held in conjunction with our friends Steve & Laura Knoll of 2 Bar Angus. The sale is in Hereford, Texas, the first Monday in October. Our bulls are marketed through the Gardiner Angus Ranch spring and fall sales. We would like to thank all of them for their help and support.
Visit Us
Another reason we really enjoy the Angus business is the people we have met and there’s nothing we enjoy more than visiting with fellow breeders. So, call, come visit, come to our sales. Again, thank you for taking the time to view our site!
